Not only does your server need its anti-virus and anti-spyware programs, it needs a little tender loving care and attention on your part. Below are a few tips in order to make sure your server is secure at all times.
Oftentimes, server security breaches start with the user. Clicking on links and downloading music are the main culprits of server security breaches. Sometimes these links will bring the user’s computer to a mock website, which is loaded with malicious ActiveX controls as well as scripting. These Active X controls and scripting can negatively affect a server quickly.
Another thing a user can do is make sure they are checking their email cautiously and with an open mind. Please, do not click on links within emails in which you do not know the sender, even if it is a well-known institution such as your bank or business colleague. From time to time hackers will create these emails, which link you to a fictitious website, which is not the intended one you were looking to be directed to. With the information, which is collected from these fake websites, hackers can easily breach you server and personal information.
Lastly, being educated on the benefits of server security in the long run will be your biggest help. Following your gut, instinct will as well. If you feel something is just not right with a website you encounter or an email, just delete it. It could be from a hacker.
