ETIQUETTE AND MINDSET
One of the most important Twitter marketing secrets for MLM is the understanding that your success on social media will be determined by what you do with your accounts, how you act and how you disseminate information. When you sit down to do your social media marketing, are you thinking, "What can I get from these people?" or "What can I sell to these people?" If you are, your followers will probably not be your followers for very long because they will see right through you and not want to associate with you, and therefore, you will not be successful. No one likes a pushy salesperson or someone who is out for all they can get, and neither do you. My suggestion is that you shift that mindset - quickly! What you want to be thinking is: "What valuable information can I provide to my network that will make a difference for them?" You want to be thinking: "What have I learned that I can share with my community so we can all be successful together?"
Quite frankly, many people do it wrong and think they're supposed to just get out there, place ads and pitch their products and services all day long. That really couldn't be farther from the truth because before anyone will do business with you, they have to get to know you, like you and trust you, and that goes for any business dealings. Have you ever done business with someone you really didn't like, if you had a choice in the matter? I'm sure if you had to drive an extra 5 miles to go to the dry cleaner that is friendly and gives good customer service, as opposed to the miserable one right around the corner, you would, even though it might be less convenient. I know I would. Think about it. We really don't want to give our hard-earned money to people we don't like and with whom we do not really want to do business.
Well it's the very same thing online, in fact, it's even a little more difficult to do business with people online because there are so many scams on the internet, it's hard for people to know when they are dealing with someone legitimate. People have been burned before and are very skeptical and cautious, so the goal is to give yourself time to develop relationships and help people get to know you first. How else will they determine if they like and trust you? How would you be able to determine if you like and trust someone that you meet online? Chances are you wouldn't want to immediately give them your money and start doing business with them without wanting to know at least something about them, right?
So...how do you develop relationships?
You share good content and valuable information relevant to your niche in the form of articles, videos, quotes, jokes, and things going on in your life on a more personal level so that people start to get interested in you and what you have to offer. You will attract people who relate to you and who are similar to you. Then, they will reciprocate either by sharing your valuable information with others or by doing business with you or both. Put out good, valuable content and keep your advertisements to a minimum. It's all about giving value. One of my business associates explains it like this: "Twitter is like Karma; you're going to get back what you give." If all you do is pitch, all you're going to get is people pitching you in return.
When your content is good and appreciated, and your followers believe that you are there to contribute, not just to see how much you can get from them, your followers will "retweet" what you put out. That means they will share it with all of their followers. The more quality content you put out and value you provide, the more you will get noticed, the more you will be liked, the more followers you will get, and the better your relationships will become.
Here's a tip: If someone retweets your stuff, it's a really good idea to start up a conversation by thanking them and start building a relationship with that person. If they like what you tweeted enough to retweet it to their followers, chances are you share some similar thinking and you probably have some things in common.
So you might be asking, How do I provide good, valuable content, especially if I'm brand new at this??
